So…you’re probably wondering what that little red line through “Week 5” in the picture means, right?
Well, here’s what happened. I started off the week well enough. I was doing my usual thing- lifting heavy, intermittent fasting, all that good shit. Then…it happened. On Friday morning, I got sick.
At first, I thought it was just a routine cold. After all, it’s late November, which is prime time for colds. Not to mention the fact that I work directly with kids at elementary schools (little germ factories). So I wasn’t really surprised. I figured I’d just suck it up, try to sleep more on the weekend, and back off a little bit at the gym.
Oh no. This wasn’t just a regular, run of the mill head cold. This was a full on, “imma fuck you up” infection. I was laid out on my ass all weekend. By Sunday, I’d developed a fever of epic proportion that left me lying in a pile of my own sweat.
On Monday morning, I crawled out of my hole and turned my sorry ass in to the doctor to be examined. Influenza. I was not at all surprised. The doctor gave me a needle injection and some medication and sent me on my way…yeah, apparently in Korea they give you an injection when you’re sick. Even more bizarre is WHERE they give the needle…directly into my right ass cheek.
I’m usually wary of taking any medication if I don’t know what it is (not to mention being wary of random needles). Call me overly cautious. But in this case, I was so fucked up I was willing to take my chances.
I don’t know what was in that needle. I don’t know what was in those pills. But I don’t care- all I know is after two days, I feel fantastic…seriously, can we get this shit in North America?
Taking A Short Break From The Challenge
Given the severity of the illness (seriously, I thought I was gonna die), I’ve decided to take a short 1 week break from the 60 Day Challenge. Had it just been a normal head cold, I would have sucked it up and soldiered on.
But as far as I’m concerned, influenza counts as extenuating circumstances. I could barely get out of bed, much less hit the gym. I also was not about to keep my body in a calorie deficit and put more stress on it (it was mostly a diet of white bread and orange juice, but it was substantial).
So…I feel justified here. Thursday, November 24th was Day 32 of the challenge.
I got sick on Friday, November 25th.
On Friday, December 2, I’ll start the challenge up again, and we’ll call it Day 33. I think that’s fair. I did check my weight, and I did gain about a pound, however, that’s to be expected (bed-ridden and not moving plus high calorie orange juice). I’m not really factoring that in though, I don’t think it will be much trouble for me to lose one extra pound.
Anyway, here are some of the photos I took before the horror show started last Friday:
